Yu-lan has a successful career devoted to contemporary dance. But when a piece of surprising news arrived from home, she must retire early to look after her foster mother with dementia. However, the trial and tribulation of caregiving and an unexpected pregnancy began to evoke uninviting memories of a bygone past. Following her heart, she enters the circle of destiny. Departure means returning, and the starting point is also the finish line. Is birth adjacent or far from death? Maybe, we would come to realize that the shadows in life are also the light to guide us.

Director Biography

Herb Hsu

Director Hsu was born in southern Taiwan. She has a multifaceted background from writing, acting, and directing to playwriting. She wrote and directed the telefilm Hotel Blackcat (2010), which was nominated for the FIPRESCI Prize by Hong Kong International Film Festival. Her other telefilm, Approaching (2013), was also nominated for Golden Bell Awards in 2014. Other noteworthy works include the documentary Wind Runner, and the short films Summer Skirts (2011) and The Big Day (2018).
