Listen Before You Sing

WE ARE ALL DIFFERENT, and that is OK.

2021 Taipei Film Awards for Best Actor and Best Screenplay Nominees; 2021 Golden Horse Awards for Best Original Film Score Nominee

Based on the founding history of Taiwan Vox Nativa Children’s Choir Group and their conductor, Bukut Tasvaluan, Listen Before You Sing is an inspiring story about a forgotten community finding their unique voice amidst the dissonances. The only elementary school for a Bunun village in Nantou County is at the cusp of shutdown due to its dropping population. School closure means that every child in the village will lose their education. As a last resort, the PE teacher and several elementary students flock to their only beacon of hope – The National Choir Contest. A prestigious trophy might just be enough to turn the tide around. The caveat: the PE teacher and students have absolutely no musical training. A win from an indigenous school is unprecedented and the competition is only weeks away. With all odds stacked against them, the choir prepares for the competition. Soundtracks performed by the original Vox Nativa Children’s Choir Group and Bukut Tasvaluan.
