Based on the founding history of Taiwan Vox Nativa Children’s Choir Group and their conductor, Bukut Tasvaluan, Listen Before You Sing is an inspiring story about a forgotten community finding their unique voice amidst the dissonances. The only elementary school for a Bunun village in Nantou County is at the cusp of shutdown due to its dropping population. School closure means that every child in the village will lose their education. As a last resort, the PE teacher and several elementary students flock to their only beacon of hope – The National Choir Contest. A prestigious trophy might just be enough to turn the tide around. The caveat: the PE teacher and students have absolutely no musical training. A win from an indigenous school is unprecedented and the competition is only weeks away.
